All journeys come to an end eventually. After all, a chapter needs to end for a new one to start. For national shuttler Peck Yan Wei (白燕微), that time is now.

Yan Wei has been with the national team for over a decade. She has had her ups and downs with her mixed doubles partners and rode the highs and lows of tourneys with the rest of the team. However, Yan Wei’s journey with them has come to an end. On 31st October, Yan Wei said goodbye to the Badminton Federation of Malaysia (BAM).

The 26-year-old declared the news via her socials with some wistfulness. “I am grateful for the support and guidance from BAM for the past 10 years,” Yan Wei started. “I truly appreciate all the opportunities that (were) given to me to represent our country. There were ups and downs, but all the moments, mean a lot to me.”

However, Yen Wei felt it was time for her to close the chapter on BAM. “(I) definitely (have) mixed feelings (about leaving) BAM. I would like to thank everyone who has supported and cheered for me in every single match. Goodbye is not forever. It is a fond farewell and wishes for a wonderful future ahead,” she reassured.

In Mandarin, Yen Wei also thanked her coach, for helping her cultivate her skills. “I may not be that great, but thank you so much for all the opportunities (in) letting me play. (Thank you) for the honour of representing Malaysia in competitions,” she said. As a final goodbye, Yen Wei added, “Don’t regret the past, expect the future.”

The mixed doubles player managed to nab gold during the Southeast Asian Games in 2021 with her partner, Chen Tang Jie. The duo also scored a silver during the India Open this year.

It’s a sad parting, for sure. However, we too would like to wish Yen Wei all the best as she starts a new journey in her life. Thank you for playing for Malaysia!
