Ask any woman about periods and she’ll tell you the same thing: it’s a pain to have. Not only do they have to contend with bleeding, but it can also be painful thanks to cramps and extremely exhausting. And one thing every woman wants to avoid is getting blood everywhere. Unfortunately, accidents do happen.
Recently, a local Grab driver was puzzled to discover a peculiar smell in his car. To his horror, he realised that his car seat had been stained with period blood. Needless to say, he wasn’t very happy.
“For a job worth RM4, now my whole car smells fishy,” the driver stated. “Here’s what happened.” Apparently, shortly after dropping off a passenger, he realised there was a peculiar smell in the car. He described it as “sour and fishy” adding that it was a very strong smell. Logically, the next step was to find out where the smell was coming from.
“I pulled over and checked the back seat. Upon seeing the stain, I used my hand to (touch it) and checked the smell. I was shocked to discover the smell made me feel like vomiting,” the driver said. “I wasn’t satisfied so I used a cloth to wipe it. The colour came out red. I then suspected it was blood from (someone’s) period.” The driver added that as extra confirmation, he googled the smell of period and claimed it was the same smell.
The man shared he had been extremely disgusted and annoyed. However, the good news was that he could claim his car’s cleaning bill from Grab. “The problem now is that I still don’t have an appetite to eat,” the man added.
His story has caused some tension among netizens. Some female netizens have sided with the passenger, claiming it was likely accidental. “Sometimes we don’t feel or know that our period has come,” one stated. “You can’t blame her, she might not have realised she was on her period.”
But, others were of the opinion that the passenger should have taken action after discovering her accident. “Perhaps they could have explained the situation to the driver and apologised, then offered to pay for the cleaning bill,” one suggested.
Another claimed she too had experienced the same situation before. “But, I called the Grab driver to apologise,” she stated. “I asked for their account number to transfer (money) for the cleaning bill. I only realised it after going to the toilet, and I had a feeling it had stained the Grab car’s seat (so I) called them immediately.”
Others however simply found it odd that the driver managed to “Google” the smell. A few even suggested he was simply trying to add fuel to the fire as the matter was supposedly settled already. Funnily enough, one even suggested the driver get married to have a better understanding of women.
We can definitely agree that it was likely embarrassing for the passenger involved. But, while it was probably an accident, we do hope future passengers will be willing to “clean up their own messes”, so to speak. Well, live and learn, we suppose.
