Although local singer Gary Chaw (曹格)’s concert is drawing nearer, the singer himself seems to be in turmoil. His main struggle? His 14-year-old marriage to fashion blogger Wu Shuling (吳速玲) which is falling apart. Gary recently shared his struggles and concern regarding their marriage during a press conference about his concert.
Unfortunately, that has carried over to his social media. Since the reveal, Gary’s posts have been erratic and vague. However, all are centred on his wife and marriage. His words have left many concerned and scared, with fellow local artist Cheryl Lee (李欣怡) even reaching out to offer encouragement.
For those not in the know, Gary and Shuling are currently in a “cold war”. Prior to his announcement, netizens had suspected something was up between the two. However, Gary has also claimed that the couple was working on fixing things. Unfortunately, his latest posts indicate that it isn’t going well.
Since October, Gary has been swinging between being okay to lamenting his deteriorating relationship with his wife. The known-bipolar artist also added that he has been off his meds, but has been replacing them with meditation and therapy. Regretfully, things have gotten much worse. Gary recently admitted that he might be close to a breakdown.
Gary isn’t the only one who has been taking to their socials to air their thoughts. On 29th October, Shuling uploaded a post on her socials, sharing her views on the matter. Like her husband, Shuling is also facing emotional turmoil. “Just because I didn’t say anything, doesn’t mean I acquiesce to all this,” the blogger wrote. “Over the years, I have endured more than I can bear. In the face of many things, I chose to ignore it.”
She shared that she recently read an article that mentioned one had the option to leave a bad relationship. “I burst into tears when I saw this line. Can you let go when you choose to face a relationship? Can it solve the problem?” Shuling asked. She added that she is still working through the problem and is currently prioritising their kids.
Gary later responded to Shuling’s post, saying: “(I) really agree. But it (seems like) it has nothing to do with love.” But, the singer later continued expanding on his response. “I cherish my wife’s love… so it’s a relief for her to leave me,” he admitted. “I love Shuling, but she loves painfully. What (should I) do? Leave? (Do) I leave? Or (does) she leave? She could choose to leave… but I love her so much.”
His next few posts shared that he was wallowing and wondering if he should give up on the relationship. Then, yesterday (30th October), he concluded, “Giving up is the simplest,” before stating, “I didn’t leave because I didn’t love you. (I left) because I love you very much.”
Many fans have been following Gary’s news, including local artist Cheryl Lee. However, while Cheryl is sympathetic towards Gary, she had some advice for him too. “As someone who has cared for someone with bipolar disorder, if possible, do not stop taking (the medication),” she said. Cheryl shared that stopping the medication was often more harmful. However, she added that with proper guidance and help, it was possible for one to recover from the situation.
Thankfully, Gary’s mood seems to be somewhat better. The singer added that although his current situation is unfavourable, he still has many things to look forward to. Adorably enough, he uploaded a photo of his kids alongside the caption: “I still have a lot.”
Well, we sincerely hope Gary’s mood continues to improve. We also sincerely wish the best for him and Shuling. Hopefully, the two will be able to work through the issue together and resolve it soon.
