Miss Hong Kong 2022 drew to a close last month with model Denice Lam (林钰洧) crowned as the winner. While it’s been a while since the pageant, the prizes were only distributed recently.
Denice, Cecca Xu (許子萱), Joey Leung (梁超怡), and Sharon Ying (邢慧敏) received their prizes yesterday (12th October). However, Denice apparently already has plans for her monetary reward. In fact, she shared that she will be donating her bonus from Miss Hong Kong to charity!
The prize-giving ceremony was a small one, but still exciting nonetheless, The girls were understandably excited to meet up again and to receive their prizes from the pageant. Some mentioned that it was their last chance to receive said prizes. Denice also went a step further and quipped that she was disappointed she wouldn’t be receiving gifts anymore.
In addition to receiving a curated gift basket, the girls were also given their portraits from the pageant awards. Denice added that she would be hanging that up at home. Funnily enough, the Miss Hong Kong winner shared that her mind had gone blank when she was coronated. “I didn’t realise it at the time, but I had a (seat). Maybe I was too happy and forgot how to sit,” she joked.
Aside from the gift baskets and portraits, the girls will also be gifted a bonus from the pageant. Denice clarified that she has yet to receive the said bonus. However, the Miss Hong Kong 2022 winner shared that she will be donating her share to charities related to child protection.
As to why she chose such charities in the first place, Denice claimed that she has been moved by recent news. Apparently, a child protection agency was newly alleged to have child abuse incidents. “These agencies are for safety,” Denice explained. “(After hearing the news,) I felt it was unfortunate and that it should not happen. Children need help.”
This isn’t the first time Denice has taken an interest in children’s welfare. In fact, she has sponsored children from Africa and Cambodia. Currently, Denice is currently sponsoring a 13-year-old African child. The child often sends photos of things she has drawn to Denice.
Denice’s intentions are certainly noble and admirable. It’s also nice to see her gifting the money to a good cause. We’re sure many are happy to see Denice living up to Miss Hong Kong’s reputation!
