It must be interesting working as a driver or a delivery rider. We imagine these workers have plenty of bizarre stories to tell their friends and family. Previously, we’ve learned many dirty secrets and juicy stories from Grab drivers.
Delivery riders have their fair share of strange stories like the time when a customer requested eggs laid by a rooster instead of a hen. Or that time one customer specifically (and suspiciously) asked the rider to come up to their apartment to deliver their bath towels. But what would you do if a customer asked you to hear them sing?
A video posted on Facebook and TikTok by a food delivery rider is currently going viral. The delivery rider from Thailand received an unusual request from a customer who asked him to hear her sing. In the video, the rider signalled that he has listened to 3 songs so far, while showing the elderly woman belting out in the background.
According to the video’s caption, the woman apparently paid the rider ฿20 (~RM2.50) per song. “I came to deliver food. The customer told me to sit and listen to music as a friend. Give 20 per song. 3 songs have passed🤣🤣🤣🤣,” he captioned. While the video didn’t do so well on TikTok, it has reached over 1.8 million views and 35k comments on Facebook.
Netizens on both TikTok and Facebook found the video both humorous and wholesome. Many commented on the post saying that they were willing to sit down and listen to 100 songs for ฿20. Others suggested that the rider should’ve danced to the tunes for extra tips.
According to TheSmartLocal, the rider’s experience was not all that surprising. Apparently, it’s common in Thai society for customers to hire delivery riders to carry out specific tasks outside of their job scope. That includes being a private investigator, drawing on a rice container, or singing Happy Birthday to the customer. Surprisingly, the riders don’t seem to mind these strange requests.
If you’re a delivery rider, would you be willing to do these unusual “side jobs” for extra money?
