It has been a couple of days since the finals of the Miss Hong Kong 2022 pageant (香港小姐競選). The attention has yet to die down for most participants, especially Denise Lam (林卓錡) who won the crown. But, fellow participant and Miss Photogenic Joey Leung (梁超怡) has been receiving extra attention and not the good kind.
Joey scored third in the pageant as well as the title Miss Photogenic. However, some are claiming she could have scored higher with her popularity. As it turns out, there are allegations that Joey lost the title because of her tattoos and her penchant for a nightlife!
There’s no denying that the 26-year-old has experience in the entertainment scene. Joey once co-starred with Tony Leung (梁朝偉) and Elva Hsiao (萧亚轩) in the film “Internal Affairs (無間道)” when she was six. At the time, she had acted as their daughter.
Additionally, Joey has a long history of joining pageants. Her experience certainly came in clutch during the finals. Joey was able to keep her cool during the interview and gave audience-approved answers. However, it seems her efforts were foiled by other factors instead.
The first suspected factor were her tattoos. It was previously revealed that Joey has at least seven tattoos. Three were supposedly spotted during a press conference; two on her left and right forearms and one on her left hip. According to Joey, the tattoos aren’t all for decoration. She once shared that one of them was actually to commemorate her friend who had passed.
However, it is well known that TVB has always treated tattoos as a “taboo”. Previously, it was noted that participants who had them would not be shortlisted, although that has supposedly changed in recent years. In fact, pageant authorities recently responded to the matter, claiming that tattoos are now acceptable, as long as the size is moderate.
Well, if her tattoos weren’t the cause, others claim it might be her nightlife which cost her the crown. Photos of Joey in a short skirt and enjoying the nightlife were apparently exposed on the eve of the finals. As a result, some feel that Joey’s image was spoilt which impacted her final standings in the pageant. Additionally, there were rumours that Joey had disagreements with netizens online and resorted to getting others to fight on her behalf.
Joey has since denied the rumours. She claimed she was too busy preparing for the pageant to pay attention to such hearsays. She also added that people’s opinions would differ as everyone has their own preferences.
Well, there’s no denying that Joey’s achievements aren’t anything to scoff at. Regardless of whether she deserved the crown, Joey certainly managed to earn second runner-up and Miss Photogenic on her own, so kudos to that!
