There are now countless stories of women being victims of sexual harassment. It’s even worse when the perpetrator turned out to be someone they know. If you’re not safe around family or friends, then who can you actually trust to protect you from harm?
While survival tips can be helpful, the outcome is not always guaranteed. Most of the time, the offender would not even acknowledge, let alone apologise for what they’ve done. Even if they did, it’s not always known by the public but a local influencer finally came forward on IG to apologise after being accused of sexually harassing another public figure.

Malaysian Influencer Lim Shang Jin recently posted a statement on his IG story to address the viral issue where Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 Serene Claire indirectly accused him of sexually harassing her. In the IG post, he admitted to the shameful act toward the beauty pageant winner and apologised for what he had done to her while he was drunk.
“I hereby sincerely apologise to [Serene Claire] for the way I’ve acted towards her in front of everyone a few days ago while I was drunk. I’ve done some disrespectful things that have caused her physical and psychological trauma,” he wrote. According to China Press, Serene was the one who insisted that the content creator post a public apology after he had reached out and apologised to her privately.
For those who aren’t aware, here’s what happened. The Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 winner went to a party and was approached by an acquaintance who was very drunk. She yelled at him for inappropriately touching her and was told by his friends to avoid him the next time she sees him. She then called her offender out in an IG post where she told the story in full detail without mentioning his name:

After Lim Shang Jin’s public statement, the 27-year-old posted on her IG saying that she has accepted his apology but will find it difficult for the two to be friends. However, she assured him that she’ll be professional should both of them cross paths in their career. Here’s her final statement:

Update (27th September):
Following his initial apology (that expired after 24 hours on his IG Story), Lim Shang Jin uploaded an IG post to offer his sincere apology again, while vowing never to drink in public again.
