One thing many Malaysians have in common is that we love seeing foreigners’ reactions when they try something local. It could be our food, our traditional dances, our traditional outfits, or even the way we eat. We’ve seen one foreign man who struggled to eat rice with his hand and prior to that, we had an American woman who was blown away by a popular local mall.
Netizens have been entertained by those foreigners’ reactions and experiences in Malaysia as those videos showed how much they enjoyed their experience. But how would you react if a foreigner gave negative remarks about a Malaysian childhood classic drink? Here’s what this woman had to say about100PLUS:
TikTok user @josieliftsthings is an Australian content creator who posts videos of her travels around the world and many of her recent videos are of her experiences in Malaysia. She documented her travels and activities in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Sarawak, Kelantan, and Penang. The video that caught the most attention, with over 883k views, was the one where she tried the 100PLUS isotonic drink.
Josie posted her reaction to trying the drink after she discovered that it’s popular in Malaysia. Her experience with the drink was unfortunately unpleasant as it was not to her liking and even compared it with an alcoholic drink. “I do not like that. That tastes like a vodka lime soda but without the vodka. That one’s not for me,” she said after taking a sip of the sports drink.
While some netizens joked about how they were “offended” by the Aussie’s remark, there were also those who were actually offended by her reaction with one netizen threatening to drown her in MILO. Some appreciated her honesty while others believed she just didn’t know how to value the drink. A number of netizens also emphasised that it’s mainly a sports drink.
It was unfortunate that Josie didn’t like our 100PLUS drink but she did try a lot of our local delicacies like Nasi Lemak, Cendol, and Char Kuey Teow to which she expressed that she loved them. The TikToker is now currently travelling in Indonesia.
What do you think about her comment about 100PLUS? Do you agree with her?
