Although Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC) opened its doors to many performing artists and audiences in October last year, the “Buka Panggung” or opening ceremony took place only on Wednesday (27th July). Entirely owned and operated by 1 Utama, PJPAC strives to improve the creative and cultural opportunities for all Malaysians with its state-of-the-art spaces and facilities.
Located inside 1 Utama Shopping Centre’s latest extension – 1 Utama E – PJPAC boasts a 684-seater “Stage 1” theatre, a 970sqm Proscenium Theatre, and is the largest of its kind in Selangor. The “Nero Event Space” black box allows performers to experiment with their work live on stage and accommodate small-to-mid scale productions, events, and functions. Coming soon to the venue is 1ncubator, a facility to provide premium quality spaces and facilities and to cultivate gifted performers and talents from the arts, social media, and entertainment industries.
PJPAC can also cater for conferences, launches, private shows, and corporate and commercial events. “The Pre-Function Lobby” is perfect for press meets, pre-function cocktails, art exhibitions, product launches, and many more. For a more private and exclusive setting, the unique alfresco area “The Lounge” is the place for the perfect ambiance.
1 Utama Shopping Centre also presented “Once Upon A Stage” which celebrates PJPAC with avid fans and practitioners of live performing arts, while also highlighting PJPAC’s technical capabilities.Through a lineup of specially produced performances spanning multiple genres such as theatre, music, dance, and more, it showcased the best in Malaysian talents such as Lee Swee Keong, dancers from the Asia Ballet Company, Dama Asia, mad.g dance group, Zamzuriah & Baizam Generation, HANDS Percussion Malaysia, and the students of the College of Creative Arts from Universiti Teknologi MARA.
