ATV artist Sit Yeng Yi (号佳丽) aka Ah Yi (阿仪) is still enjoying her time in Malaysia. She’s been touring the country while sampling the various joys it has to offer. Although Yeng Yi had been reluctant to make the trip initially, after a durian fan-meet, and a trip to Kuala Lumpur and Genting SkyWorlds, she’s much happier about it.
Recently, YouTubers Klay Heng aka Klou (K佬, Lay Kar Heng) and Maria Hee (大 Hee) of the group Dissy (低清) got the opportunity to interview her. The interview was awkward for everyone in the beginning. But, the guys eventually got Yeng Yi to warm up and even won several smiles out of her!
Both Klay and Maria admitted to being very nervous initially. After all, this was the ATV artist Ah Yi, who is infamous for her poker face. Additionally, the duo would have to hold the entire interview in Cantonese as it is Yeng Yi’s preferred language. They tried their best to make the experience as comfortable as possible for Yeng Yi.
Unfortunately, when the interview did start, it was easy to see how stiff Yeng Yi was. Compared to the two more animated YouTubers, Yeng Yi simply seemed stone faced and uncomfortable. Klay started off with some easy questions. “Have you ever wanted to come to Malaysia?” he asked. “Do you like it here?” Yeng Yi bluntly stated that Malaysia was ordinary. “The traffic is inconvenient and the salary isn’t high,” she commented, which Klay agreed with.
Further questions posed usually received one-worded or no answer as Yeng Yi would look blank-faced at the camera. Luckily, Maria and Klay managed to turn them into funny moments and persisted in keeping things light and casual. Thankfully, Yeng Yi eventually warmed up to them.
At one point, Klay managed to coax a smile out of Yeng Yi when he tried to sing the song “Freedom (想自由)” for her. He managed one line before forgetting the rest of the lyrics. Yeng Yi tried to hide her smile by pursing her lips and even told Klay “It was sung ten years ago,” as an excuse for him forgetting.
Maria also got Yeng Yi to laugh with his ‘confession’. Apparently, the duo wanted to see how Yeng Yi would handle being confessed to and Maria was willing to try his luck. He poured out his heart to her, which got smiles out of her, especially when he called her “Ah Yi, baby”. However the romantic moment came to an abrupt end when she turned him down, causing the trio to break into laughter. “Let’s just be friends,” she said with a grin.
The duo also prepared a variety of Malaysian snacks for Yeng Yi to try, some of which she hadn’t had before. They included delicacies like roti canai, a Ramly burger, cendol, pisang goreng (fried banana) and lekor. Ultimately, Yeng Yi loved the cendol.
As many pointed out, the interview could have been very embarrassing for all of them. However, Klay and Maria managed to rally themselves and outperformed as good hosts. Several netizens were delighted that they managed to charm Yeng Yi to smile and praised their skills.
Well, Yeng Yi did admit that before the interview she hadn’t heard of Dissy. However, perhaps Maria and Klay have managed to gain another subscriber with her!
