A year ago, 38-year-old Sit Yeng Yi (号佳丽) decided to try her luck at the annual Miss Asia Pageant 2021. To her amazement, and the surprise of many others, Yeng Yi caught people’s attention. Shortly after that, her career as an artist under ATV took off.
Now, Yeng Yi (fondly known as Ah Yi, 阿仪) is riding on the waves of her popularity in Malaysia. Curious to know what she thought about her own rise to popularity, China Press took the opportunity to ask. Needless to say, her answer was, as always, a surprise.
The ATV star recently expressed her own amazement at her increasing popularity. Apparently, it had dawned on her a few days ago when Yeng Yi realised just how many people were following her on her socials now. When asked about the reason for her popularity, Yeng Yi attributed it to her swimsuit appearance in the Miss Asia Pageant 2021 swimsuit segment. However, she explained that she had initially joined the Miss Asia Pageant to meet artists and celebs.
“Since I wore the three point bikini during the ATV (show), many people have (been) watching me,” Yeng Yi shared. “Maybe that swimsuit was beautiful!” Yeng Yi added that the three point bikini had been the first bikini she had ever worn in her life. However, the ATV sister mentioned that she still prefers to wear a one-piece swimsuit instead. “It’s troublesome to wear a three-point bikini,” she told China Press. “If you wear (a three-point bikini), you will be teased.”
Yeng Yi may enjoy the popularity, but she insisted she remains indifferent to it. “Sometimes people (reach out) to me, but I don’t pay attention to them,” she stated. Yeng Yi also claimed to not care what others think about her. The 38-year-old said she is perfectly happy with her body and rated herself 8 points out of 10. To her, there will always be people who are more beautiful or uglier than her.
Her bold approach stems from her confidence in her appearance. According to Yeng Yi, she has always dreamed of being a star. Although she never took to makeup or dressing up, Yeng Yi remained steadily confident in her own looks. It was that confidence which stole people’s attention during the pageant and got her signed on with ATV afterwards.
Well, her career with ATV has led her all the way to Malaysia and Yeng Yi supposedly has no regrets. Although she initially claimed her company had forced her here, Yeng Yi has been having a good time with a durian-themed fan meet and touring KL.
So far, Yeng Yi has enjoyed visiting Melaka and Johor. She’s also added that her favourite food in Malaysia is fried chicken wings and watermelon. We certainly hope she continues to remain confident and enjoys her time her in Malaysia!
