The Miss Hong Kong pageant is back for 2022 and things are shaping up well. The first and second round of interviews saw some contestants passing and others being dropped. This unfortunately included one of the crowd’s favourites, “Laurinda (Stanley Ho’s daughter) lookalike (翻版超蓮)” Bianca.
Bianca (刘超慈) had been thought by the crowd to be a shoo-in. With a lovely appearance and a Master’s degree in Chinese, people were certain she would nab a place. However, the 25-year-old regretfully didn’t make it. Additionally, she claims she also let her idol, Hong Kong actor Kenneth Ma (馬國明) down.
The blogger and model happily admitted that she is a big fan of the actor. According to Bianca, she’s had a crush on him since her younger days. It was never a secret either. Bianca shared in an interview that all her fellow students and teachers in school knew who her favourite idol is. “When I was in middle school, I wrote on a poster board that my wish was world peace (and to) marry Kenneth Ma,” she said. However, now, she is supportive of Kenneth’s relationship with girlfriend and actress Roxanne Tong (汤洛雯).
When asked about her not making it for the second round, Bianca admitted she was more upset that she had let Kenneth down. Apparently, the actor had reached out to give her encouragement for the competition. Unfortunately, it simply wasn’t enough. Bianca did admit that she had been optimistic about her chances in the competition.
As for why she hadn’t made it, well Bianca had her own suspicions. She claimed it may be because she didn’t meet Miss Hong Kong’s beauty standards. The 25-year-old’s face had previously been disfigured after a nasty fall. Although she underwent restorative surgery for five years, Bianca felt her appearance was never quite the same. However, she hoped her participation in the pageant despite her disfigurement would encourage others to join.
Bianca may not have made it into Miss Hong Kong, but she still hopes to appear in the entertainment scene. We certainly hope she will! We look forward to seeing this courageous and optimistic lady influence the world in her own way.
