Haliza Maysuri, the founder of the hijab brand Bawal Exclusive, has found herself in hot waters over a post she shared on her TikTok recently.
The fashion entrepreneur uploaded a video of herself flaunting her lavish telekung (women’s prayer garment) worth a whopping RM16k. However, it was the caption that ended up drawing the ire of many netizens.

“(Wearing my) RM16k ‘telekung’ to meet Allah. Now I feel less guilty after sporting a bag worth tens of thousands of ringgit to meet my friends,” Haliza captioned her posting. At the time of writing (Wednesday, 1st June), the video posted has gained over 213k views on the video sharing app.
That being said, netizens were less than impressed with the statement shared by the businesswoman. Scrolling through the comments section, many came forth to put Haliza on blast for deliberately showing off her wealth to the public. One commentator questioned, “I thought Islam emphasises decency and modesty? Correct me if I’m wrong.”
Another TikToker also chimed in and wrote, “I am not a Muslim. But I believe all religions teach the same thing – God does not look at how wealthy you are, but how sincere you are (in worshipping Him).” We couldn’t agree more, though. Here are some of the responses shared by them:

So far, Haliza hasn’t even bothered to respond to the netizens’ comments. You can watch the video here in case you are interested:
