Environmentally-Friendly Shopping
There’s always a way for us to take better care of our environment. “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” as the saying goes. Top brand companies and NGOs are always trying to come up with solutions for sustainability and paving the way towards this agenda. Foodpanda Malaysia is no different.
Foodpanda also announced their plans and efforts in finding the most sustainable ways to shop, eat and live. The top delivery platform in Asia Pacific is dedicated to better serving both the community and the environment as they work towards a low-carbon future in everything they do.
“Through the introduction of more sustainable initiatives across the organisation, we hope to have more vendors, delivery partners and customers join us on our mission to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. In brief, we believe in empowering local communities to live better lives, powered by technology,” said Sayantan Das, Managing Director, Foodpanda Malaysia.
Foodpanda has identified some of the challenges that we’re facing and has come up with solutions that can help make the world a healthier and greener place to live. Here are some of the challenges listed and solutions Foodpanda came up with:
1. Environmental sustainability challenges in the food delivery industry
Solution: Foodpanda is moving towards eco-friendly mobility by encouraging consumers to opt for Pick-Up orders with special offers and promotions. Foodpanda also encourages the use of greener transport options to complete orders.
2. Food wastage
Solution: Foodpanda will be introducing several initiatives, including the pandamart food bank to provide food to local underserved communities. There are also limited-time only deals and discounts on Pick-Up and pandamart items to improve food sustainability.
3. Food Sustainability & Single-use plastics
Solution: Foodpanda practices the use of paper bags instead of plastic bags. The delivery service also ensures that only biodegradable plastic bags are used on pandamart.
Between 2017 and 2020, Foodpanda was the first delivery platform in Asia to introduce the usage of reusable containers in Singapore, as well as the first platform in Asia to introduce the in-app cutlery-opt out toggle, resulting in the reduction of over 160 million pieces of single-use plastic.
From now to 31st May, customers can join the cause by opting for the Pick-up option from selected vendors and enjoy 15% off. In addition, Foodpanda will also be organising a Snap and Win contest for users to stand a chance at winning a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro and RM10 Pick-up vouchers!
