It’s always odd to discover that other families do things differently than yours. Be it their nightly routines, or how they deal with certain household problems, it can be pretty jarring. However, there are still some lines that simply should not be crossed.
A Taiwanese netizen recently revealed something she found odd about her boyfriend’s family. Apparently, he still takes a bath with his mother. Although she found it concerning, he treated it like it was normal and left her wondering if she was overreacting.
The netizen brought her woes to Zuvio, an online forum and asked if her experience was normal. Apparently, she had been staying at her boyfriend’s place during the Lunar New Year. She’d been on the computer when he casually mentioned he was going to take a bath. It wasn’t out of the ordinary, but his next sentence was. “My mother is waiting for me,” he told her.
“I wasn’t listening carefully at first,” the woman admitted. “It took a few seconds before I realised that he was already in college and he’s taking a bath with his mother.” The lady found it weird and stated she’d never heard of anyone else doing such a thing. She likened him to a “mama’s boy”. Things got stranger when her boyfriend said his mother would apparently rub his back and wash his body for him. However, the only thing her boyfriend found weird was the fuss she was making over the issue, claiming it was normal.
Needless to say, netizens were quick to advice her to leave him. One comment summarized what everyone was thinking: “Gross.” Another person said the story reminded her of an incest plot. “It’s really not great to think that your boyfriend has seen his mother’s body,” they wrote. “It’s (horrible) to see his hairy bird too.” Others pointed out this went far beyond being a “mama’s boy”.
Spending time together as a family is good, but there should still be boundaries. Hopefully, her boyfriend and his mother learn that. Otherwise, this Taiwanese netizen will have a very awkward relationship with her potential in-laws later on.
