We all have something in common with Batman – apart from not having any superpowers, we do share a love of high-tech gadgets! Sadly, while we can’t place whole-sale orders for military-grade equipment, we can comfort ourselves with the thought that we have some mundane equivalents to help to keep us sane while working from home.
Never thought of it that way before? Well just sit back in your Batcave as we celebrate Batman Month this September and take a look at the similarities between our humble gadgets and Batman’s gear (because none of us have our very own Lucius Fox and all the resources of a fully-equipped R&D lab at our disposal).
Batcomputer aka personal digital devices

Our personal computers, laptops and tablets have more processing power than anybody could have imagined when the Batcomputer made its first appearance in the 1960s. As time – and technology – progresses, we see the Batcomputer reimagined in a host of ways, usually involving huge monitors that display everything from radar to the locations of his various enemies.
To some extent, we have some pretty nifty GPS-linked apps that can reveal locations and track our various online purchases too. Just saying.
Communicator aka smartphone and hands-free accessories

Batman always needs to stay in touch with Alfred, and he keeps inventing new ways to do it! From the watch communicator in “Batman Forever”, which was considerably ahead of its time in 1995, we now have the super-impressive Tech Cowl which, among its many other features, allows constant communication with Alfred (and probably anyone else he wants to talk to).
For us non-billionaires, we have plenty of videoconferencing tools to keep us in touch with our colleagues and family members, plus headsets and earbuds for hands-free convenience. All we lack is the cool factor.
Bat-remote aka voice-activated digital assistant

When you’re in the (work) zone, the last thing we want is an interruption. Sometimes, even taking our eyes off the screen for a moment, or getting up off the chair to switch off the TV or adjust the volume can throw us off our stride.
Naturally, with a Batremote that can operate even his Batmobile and trusty Alfred constantly on hand to do everything else, Batman doesn’t need to worry about petty stuff like that.
For us, a voice-activated digital assistant can be pretty useful when our hands are busy from the constant call of cooking, washing dishes, changing diapers, breaking up sibling tussles, typing emails, drafting proposals, crunching numbers and so much more. A pity we can’t tell those oh-so-polite voices to deal with more troublesome tasks.
Utility Belt aka home survival kit

Batman’s utility belt is like… magic. No matter what he needs, no matter what the situation or whichever villain he’s up against, he’s likely to have something on that iconic utility belt that will help, be it Batarangs, smoke pellets, Bat-Bombs, Bat Cuffs, or grapple gun.
Working from home, we certainly don’t need to actually strap on a utility belt every morning. However, we definitely have our own, customised collection of tools and gadgets to help us keep things in good working order, topped up with tricks and treats to keep the kids occupied, not to mention all the essentials we need to get work done.
In essence, our version is more like a utility container with its contents scattered around the house because – let’s be honest here – nothing is ever where we expect to find it.
Batsuit aka power suit

While some of us work best in our PJs or comfy loungewear, some of us need the right attire to trigger the right mindset. Batman is a perfect example – can you imagine him taking out villains in anything else but his tricked out Batsuit?
So, on days when you need a little professional pick-me-up, a power suit or ensemble can work wonders to put you in the right frame of mind to tackle tough business decisions, even when there’s no one to see it.
Remember, sometimes you need to dress to impress just to remind yourself that you’re a working professional with your A-game on!
