It has come to a point where it goes without saying that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected job security all over the world. Due to the travel restrictions imposed, one of the areas that’s experiencing significant job losses is the aviation industry.
With many pilots, air hostess’ and more now being left without a salary, some have taken the initiative to find alternate sources of income during these difficult times. One such individual is a former Malaysia Airlines (MAS) pilot, Naeem Nassir, who recently opened a street burger stall after losing his job.
Naeem previously worked as a pilot for MAS from 2014-2018. He then moved on to Oman Air in 2018, only to be laid off soon after.
After months of being jobless and staying at home, Naeem decided that he no longer wanted to sit around feeling helpless and opened a street burger stall. This stall, known as Smashed Burger, is now open at Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam and operates from 5:30pm-11pm everyday!
The inspiration behind establishing the Smashed Burger street food stall came from hours and hours of watching TV and YouTube videos. Naeem is said to have learnt the magic of grilling and cooking through these videos and, as he was craving for the amazing burgers he enjoyed back in Oman, the young pilot decided to start catering high quality burgers at an affordable price.
Naeem is currently running Smashed Burger with the support of his wife, and their new venture is a smashing hit! The high quality burgers are made out of 100% Australian beef and have been sold out everyday. And honestly, we understand why, because these burgers look absolutely delicious.
Smashed Burger has an impressive menu that comes with mouth-watering ingredients such as melted cheese, caramelised onions and a signature sauce. You can also choose to add on egg, cheese and beef bacon onto your burgers, along with curly fries or onion rings available as sides.
The burgers are priced RM10 and up with free delivery within the area for a minimum purchase of RM20. For areas outside of Bukit Jelutong, charges will be included according to a third party delivery company’s rates.
Netizens are very impressed with Naeem’s perseverance and ambition in taking up this new venture and they are cheering him on all the way. We wish Smashed Burger all the best for their future and hope it will continue to be a smashing success!
Many other former airline employees have also opened up similar food stalls following their recent job losses. One such stall is Kapten Corner, which was opened by a former local pilot, and another Nasi Kukus stall opened by an air stewardess.
