David Christopher, also known as “Uncle Pokémon” has breathed his last on 4th October 2020 (Sunday), at the age of 68.
He was well-known by the community for selling Pokémon plushies outside of the HSBC Bank in Uptown Damansara.
According to a local portal, he had a terrible lung infection which caused his lungs and kidney to fail, rendering him unresponsive. He and his family had known of the infection before, but thought it had cleared on its own as the doctor said it wasn’t serious.
The sad news was shared in the Lowyat Forums under a post titled “RIP Uncle Pokémon”. Quotes were included in the post explaining the situation, “Uncle passed away due to lung infection complications, He fell down the stairs while selling soft toys back in December, couldn’t walk after that. His health slowly worsened to how it is now.”
Just for information, David was diagnosed with leukemia 5 years ago but had been cancer-free since 2017. It was also around that time when his Pokémon plushie business started booming following the Pokémon Go’s hype.
Since most people have heard of “Uncle Pokémon”, netizens from all over social media are emotionally affected by the heartbreaking news. Below are some Twitter users sharing their condolences and warm prayers.
