Ready for some magical news? Rupert Grint is going to be a dad!
Best known for playing Ron Weasley in the hit franchise “Harry Potter”, the 31-year-old Brit has just announced that he’s expecting his first child with longtime girlfriend Georgia Groome.
The pair’s representative, Clair Dobbs, confirmed the happy news to to E! News and USA Today this week. “Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are excited to announce they are expecting a baby and would please ask for privacy at this time,” the rep was quoted as saying.
The future mom and dad were spotted out and about in London a few days ago to stock up on supplies amidst the Covid-19 lockdown. Both were dressed casually – Grint was wearing a dark jacket and a green cap, while Groome opted for a black t-shirt and matching leggings.
The couple, who have been dating on and off, first got together sometime in 2011. But fans only got wind of their romance years later when a throwback photograph of them together went viral on the internet. Grint and Groome spark marriage rumours last year when they were photographed wearing matching gold rings, but a spokesperson denied it.
The English previously spoke about fatherhood back in 2018. “Turning 30 felt strange. It just doesn’t feel like I’m there yet and I don’t know what the future holds,” he told The Guardian. “I’m just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters, and see what happens. I’d like to settle down and have kids soon.”
When asked if he would name his future son after the beloved character Ron Weasley, the actor replied, “If I had a son, would I call him Ron? It’s quite a good name, but probably not. And Grint’s a tough name to pair a one-syllable first name with.”
We have no idea if the tiny tot will have red hair, but we’ll be check back in 11 years to see if a letter from Hogwarts arrives.
