It has come to our attention that BTS leader RM (real name Kim Nam-joon) has a little cousin. Not just any cousin, but a butt-kicking MMA fighter named, Seo Jiyeon (서지연).
Now being a cousin of an international celebrity sometimes bring a lot of pressure. But she seems to be taking it all in stride as she’s set to carve out her own identity in the MMA scene. So in order to get to know more about this amazing lady, here are 6 fun facts about the fighter.
1. She Has The Same Name With Other Famous Koreans
If you try to Google up information on the 20-year-old, then you might not be able to find what you’re looking for. This is because the MMA fighter shares the same name with two other famous South Koreans. One being the actress Seo Jiyeon and the other being a fencer that also goes by Seo Jiyeon.
The 33-year-old actress is a famous TV personality in Thailand with her appearance in shows like “Bangkok Bachelor” and “The Price Is Right Thailand”. On the other hand, the other Seo Jiyeon is a 26-year-old fencer who represented South Korea in the 2016 summer Olympics and won the silver medal in 2017’s World Fencing Championships in sabre team event.
2. The Reason She Hides Her Relationship With BTS RM
In the interview where she revealed her relation with the BTS member, she mentioned how she was initially afraid to reveal it for fear of insulting ARMYs. But she now feels proud in having a famous cousin and later added that she even got encouragement from the idol.
She said, “I purposely didn’t talk about this in fear of insulting BTS fans, but I’m proud that I have a cousin who is famous all around the world. I’ll work hard to live up to the reputation of RM’s cousin and become a great fighter.”
3. She Got Encourage By RM

In the same interview, she also mentioned that she was encouraged by her elder cousin to continue her training as a fighter. “I’ve seen him since I was really young, but once he became such a giant star, it became difficult for me to approach him at first. But RM later encouraged me to keep on practicing as a sportswoman,” added the MMA fighter.
4. Her MMA Fighting Record
Despite being as such as She is certainly no rookie when it comes to the ring, as she began competing in just 2 months after entering the field. Professionally, she has recorded 12 matches already with an impressive 8 wins and 4 loses.
5. Current Champion Status
Competing is one thing, but being a champion is another. Jiyeon proves that talent does run in the family as she is currently the URCC Flyweight Champion in Women’s Division.
6. Her MMA Nicknames
Like any fighters in the MMA world, there would eventually come a time when they will be granted a nickname. And Jiyeon is no different as she has not one but 3 nicknames. Her nicknames are as follows:
