Last year, American toy company Hasbro announced plans for its first indoor water park and family resort, themed around some of its biggest toy and game franchises.
Now, it has been officially confirmed that the world’s first ever Hasbro-themed water theme park will be opened at Meridian’s Malaysia Tourism City (MTC) development in Kuala Linggi, Melaka, through a Hasbro licensing agreement secured by M101 Holdings Sdn Bhd.
M101 Holdings which has signed a licensing agreement with the US-based toy and board game company is a private entity of Meridian Bhd executive director Datuk Seth Yap who signed a licensing agreement with Hasbro Live! (Hasbro) regional director Natalie Chan yesterday during the official launch of the 622-acre MTC.
“By signing the agreement, we will be partnering with Hasbro to develop the world’s first Hasbro-themed water theme park, which is to be an iconic branded attraction that will be an essential anchor at the heart of the MTC master plan. The water park will be 20 acres in size, offering a wide range of branded new rides that are not available in other parks of the world,” said Yap as quoted by Edge Prop.

“We will try to keep the theme park within a budget of less than U$20 million instead of a few hundred million. But it will be a very unique theme park that offers an enjoyable Hasbro brand experience to the visitors,” he added.
The theme park is the second partnership between Yap and Hasbro. Yap who is also the CEO of M101 Holdings will also bring the world’s first Monopoly-branded hotel, the Monopoly Mansion by Sirocco at M101 Skywheel in Kuala Lumpur.
The Hasbro water theme park is part of the first phase of MTC development which is expected to kick off by end-2019. The phase includes a weekend market and an adventure park. The water theme park is expected to open in 2022.
Hasbro’s portfolio of brands includes “My Little Pony”, “Monopoly”, “Magic: The Gathering”, “G.I. Joe”, “Furby”, “Transformers”, “Power Rangers”, and more.
