Move over fellas, the tables have turned and it’s the ladies’ time to take the spotlight in “Ocean’s 8”.
The “Ocean’s” formula hasn’t altered much from the previous movies. It’s slick and quick as ever, but what “8” really offers is a makeover for this female-fronted franchise. Many may term it as a remake, but lead star Sandra Bullock says otherwise. “It’s not a reboot, not a passing of the torch. It’s a parallel story,” she told Total Film.

The synopsis of “Ocean’s 8” is as follows:
“5 years, 8 months, 12 days and counting — that’s how long Debbie Ocean has been devising the biggest heist of her life. She knows what it’s going to take — a team of the best people in the field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller. Together, they recruit a crew of specialists, including jeweller Amita, street con Constance, suburban mom Tammy, hacker Nine Ball, and fashion designer Rose. Their target — a necklace that’s worth more than $150 million.”
Find out who’s playing who in this merry band of thieves:
1. Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, The Mastermind
5 years after leaving George Clooney to die alone in “Gravity”, the Oscar winner is now playing Danny Ocean’s (played by Clooney in the “Ocean’s” Trilogy) estranged younger sister. Thievery clearly runs in the family, as Debbie gathers a group of intelligent women and concocts a major heist at New York’s Met Gala.

2. Cate Blanchett as Lou Miller, The Right-Hand (Wo)Man
Platinum-blonde, leather-pants-wearing, and androgynous, Lou is Debbie’s best friend and partner-in-crime. To put it simply, she’s the Rusty Ryan (played by Brad Pitt) to Bullock’s Danny Ocean. As the second-in-command, she’s instrumental in putting the team together and overseeing everything.
3. Anne Hathaway as Daphne Kluger, The Mark
A Met Ball wouldn’t be complete without the presence of beautiful women wearing jaw-dropping fashion pieces to the event. Fret not though, we’ve got a world-famous actress in Daphne, who finds herself in the spotlight of this heist. That’s because she has a gorgeous necklace worth $150 million around her neck .

4. Rihanna as Nine Ball, The Hacker

Nine Ball isn’t her real name but who cares. Here, Riri plays a computer wizard and a surveillance expert. Her task? To get the ladies into the Met Gala without the prying eyes of the security cameras noticing them.
5. Helena Bonham-Carter as Rose Weil, The Designer
Fallen from grace, Rose is a fashion designer who has found herself close to bankruptcy. Out of desperation, she joins Debbie’s team. Every Hollywood star needs a reliable fashion designer and Rose will need to convince one vain actress that she’s the real deal.

6. Mindy Kaling as Amita, The Jeweller
“She lives with her mom; her older sister got married and is the apple of the family’s eye, and Amita’s mom is on her case all the time!” describes Kaling about her character. “I actually had to learn Hindi to do a scene. Although I’m Indian, I was not raised speaking any Indian languages. So it was incredibly challenging,” she added. As the master of diamonds, Amita is well-versed in forgery and gem-cutting.

7. Sarah Paulson as Tammy, The Fence
Many of the members are new but Debbie and Tammy have history together – yep, they go way back. Tammy may be a suburban mother now, but she’s a world-class fence. For those that don’t know, it means she’s an expert at moving stolen goods.

8. Awkwafina as Constance, The Thief
Hip and funny, this street hustler is an expert pickpocket. “What I liked about Constance and what drew me in is that she’s not just a New Yorker, she’s from Queens and her fibre is very much a product of that environment. Her hustle–dreaming of a better life and how to hustle your way into it–that is Awkwafina’s story too, and it bled very well into my own life,” the Asian actress shared.
