Idris Elba is teaming up with Netflix to direct and star in the reboot of “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame”.
The 45-year-old Brit will be hunching his back, quite literally, when he takes on the role of disfigured bell-ringer, Quasimodo. Besides sitting in the director’s seat, the English actor will also be producing the film under his Green Door outfit.

Based on the book written by Victor Hugo in 1831, “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame” centres on a hunchback named Quasimodo. Brought up by Frollo in the Archdeacon of Notre Dame, he falls in love with a 16-year-old gypsy, Esmeralda.
Most of us are probably familiar with the Disney 1996 animated feature, with the storyline focusing on a happy ending instead of a tragic one that was in the original source. The Hollywood Reporter stated that Netflix beat Disney in creating a live-action version for “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame”.

Besides “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame”, Elba is also collaborating with Netflix on the comedy “Turn Up Charlie”.
