It’s no secret, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin has always admired Tun Mahathir Muhammad as an icon and a great leader. If you’ve been following the Malaysian songstress on Instagram, you’ll notice that she’s been supporting our Prime Minister and his wife Dr Siti Hasmah.
Unfortunately, that came with a price.
“The return of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to serve as prime minister for the second time, and at his age of 92, is also something which is unheard before anywhere else,” Malaysia’s No. 1 singer told NST during the launch of Creacion & Simplysiti by Siti Nurhaliza boutique in Melawati Mall yesterday (Sunday, 13th May).
The 39-year-old star added, “Whatever I had shared earlier on social media regarding him was a show of admiration for what he had done during his previous tenure as prime minister. It was never a secret.”
Praising Tun Mahathir for his great statesmanship and dedication towards the country, Siti Nurhaliza commented, “The change in the ruling party which had been in power since the nation’s independence should be a lesson for leaders not to be complacent, but to work hard for the country and its people.” To date, Siti’s Instagram is only 1 of the 7 accounts followed by Malaysia’s 7th PM himself.
Tun Asyraf Khalid, who is Siti’s stepson and Datuk Khalid’s biological son, has also been very vocal about his support for Tun Mahathir. In a surprising revelation, the President of NGO Generasi Bersatu Malaysia described the backlash his family had been facing for making their political stand.
“Have you ever wondered why DCT (Datuk Siti Nurhaliza) haven’t been on TV3 ever since she spoke out against the previous Government?” wrote Asyraf. He also shared that his family members have been harassed in the past. They were also threatened for showing public support to our current PM.
To quote Asyraf, we’re looking forward to a progressive Malaysia too.
