Malaysian designer Brian Khoo just took the “nasi lemak” craze to a whole new level!
When tasked to create a National Costume for Miss Universe Malaysia, Samantha Katie James, the Dior-trained designer Brian Khoo decided to incorporate Malaysia’s ultimate favourite dish – nasi lemak – into an evening dress.
The dress will be worn by Samantha Katie James at the Miss Universe 2017 beauty pageant in Las Vegas on 26th November.
The stunning dress is mostly white, with hand-embroidered pearlescent beads representing the rice, while the sambal is creatively represented with fiery ruby tones of crystals. The ensemble is also studded with ikan billis, cucumbers, and a sunny-side-up egg using glass beads – and is completed with a Victoria Secret-esque banana leaf wings in the back.
