Curious to see the main cast of “Aladdin”? Well, the Genie is here to grant your wish.
Yesterday (Wednesday, 6th September), Will Smith took to Facebook to give fans a first look at the main cast in the Disney’s live-action remake. The Oscar nominee, who is playing Genie, introduced his new co-stars as his “new family” while shooting on the film set.
“We just started shooting Aladdin and I wanted to intro you guys to our new family… Mena Massoud/Aladdin, Naomi Scott/Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari/Jafar, and I’m over here gettin my Genie on. Here we go!” the 48-year-old actor captioned the wefie.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, “Aladdin” will also feature Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Princess Jasmine’s handmaiden Dalia, and Billy Magnussen as a new character named Prince Anders (a potential suitor for Jasmine).
Unfortunately, it seems like Iago the sassy parrot will not be in this “Aladdin” remake. Instead, casting has listed Hakim as Jafar’s right hand man. As you may know, the speaking parrot was a well-loved character for his funny one-liners and rants. It’s a shame we won’t get to see him in the live-action reimagining.
Here a reminder for all you Iago fans:

Besides “Aladdin”, other Disney live-action adaptions such as “Mulan” and “The Lion King” are also in the works.
