Following the release of her lyric video starring Brazilian singer Gretchen, Katy Perry has finally released a music video for “Swish Swish” featuring rapper Nicki Minaj.
Taken off her 5th album “Witness”, the clip was directed by Dave Meyers (the man behind the singer’s award-winning “Firework” video) with Jennifer Heath, Danny Lockwood, and Nathan Scherrer as producers.
From the shooting star meme to various pop culture references, the music video is pretty goofy and it features a lot of different (and sometimes confusing) elements. Besides that, it also includes cameos from Terry Crews, Iris Kyle, Amanda LaCount, Gatan Matarazzo, Dexter Mayfield, Nicki Minaj, Jenna Ushkowitz, the West Hollywood Cheerleaders, and many more.
The track is a house-inspired EDM song that was written by Perry, Minaj, Duke Dumont, Sarah Hudson, and Starrah. The “Chained To The Rhythm” singer described the song as a “great anthem for people to use when someone’s trying to hold you down or bully you”.
“‘Swish Swish’ just basically is like, I stay winning. I just, like, you know…I’m above that crap. I’m gonna stay winning. You’re gonna try to hold me down, and I’m gonna come out like a phoenix rising,” Perry said on a radio programme.
