Charlie’s Cafe Goes Viral For Allowing Patrons To Feed The Poor

You may have heard of Charlie’s Cafe – this Malaysian eatery is not only known for serving amazing food (especially their Signature Fried Chicken Chop) but also for helping the hungry.

Charlie’s Cafe’s brainchild, Desonny Tuzan (Sonny), believes that when it comes to providing food, every single person should have their fair share, and that includes the poor that might not be able to afford their meals. That’s where “Pay it Forward” comes in.

“Pay it Forward” is a system where generous customers can purchase RM5 vouchers and contribute them for the less fortunate. “Customers get an option to contribute RM5, which gets them a voucher. We use that RM5 to prepare meals and send them to people who will then provide to street friends. Our consistent partner right now is Robin Hood Army. They pick up food from us every alternate Monday, and they send it out,” Sonny told Uppre.

Alternatively, patrons can also place their RM5 vouchers on the wall. That way, those visiting Charlie’s Cafe who don’t have enough money can make use of the vouchers to fill their belly. “We also occasionally host people to come have meals here – people from orphanages, shelters and all that. So at least they have a place (to) come and makan,” Sonny added.

Aside from their Signature Fried Chicken Chop with Salted Egg Gravy, it’s also worth mentioning that their desserts are equally delectable. Case in point: their Signature UFO Tarts and soft-serve durian ice cream made with actual durian fruit.

The details for Charlie’s Cafe are as follows:

  • Address: 29, Jalan Bukit Desa 5, Taman Bukit Desa, 58100 Kuala Lumpur
  • Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday, 11am – 10pm (Closed on Sundays)
  • Tel: 012-816 0003

For more information, check out their Facebook page or follow them on Instagram.
