Penangite Janice Tan (陈颖恩) has joined Jay Chou’s team in “Sing! China” (中国新歌声, formerly known as “The Voice China”) season 2!
Over the weekend, the 16-year-old student wowed the judges during the blind auditions with her strong vocals. Janice, who sang JJ Lin’s “Those Were The Days” (那些你很冒险的梦), said “It’s a dream come true. I have no regrets.”
Her rendition of the popular ballad caught the attention of 2 judges – Na Ying (那英) and Jay Chou (周杰伦). After some consideration, Janice ultimately chose to be on Jay’s team. The Taiwanese singer said that he needs someone like Janice to defeat Na Ying, who has a powerful female ballad singer in her team.
Other judges in the panel includes Hong Kong singer Eason Chan (陳奕迅) and Tianjin-born musician Liu Huan (劉歡).
During an interview, Janice, who also studies in the same school as last year’s finalist Lee Pei Ling, said she dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. She also said that she chose to sing “Those Were The Days” because of her little sister. According to Sinchew, she is the youngest contestant in the season.
Besides that, Malaysian participant Jeffrey Chen (谢少唐) joind Liu Huan’s team after singing Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” during the blind auditions. The 23-year-old aspiring singer was praised for his good looks and husky voice.
“Although Liu Huan looks very stern, he is actually a very warm person,” said Chen.
