Despite the resounding negative reaction to last month’s “Transformers: The Last Knight“, Paramount is moving ahead with its first spin-off, “Bumblebee”.
It had been confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld will be starring as the female lead. The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that 5 young actors will be joining the “Pitch Perfect” actress in the prequel.
Rounding out the human ensemble (from left to right) for “Bumblebee” are:
- Rachel Crow (“Deidra & Laney Rob a Train”)
- Jason Drucker (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul”)
- Gracie Dzienny (“Zoo”)
- Ricardo Hoyos (“The Belko Experiment”)
- Abby Quinn (“Landline”)
This announcement comes after it was revealed that rising star Jorge Lendeborg Jr. will be starring alongside Steinfeld as the male lead. The actor, who made his feature debut in “The Land”, was recently seen in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”.
When Bumblebee was first introduced in the 1st “Transformers” movie, he was a beat up yellow Camaro. Since his solo outing is going to be a prequel, it’s unlikely that we’ll see this autobot in his new slick new Camaro form. Who knows? We might even get to see him in his classic Camaro design.
The yellow and black striped Autobot has been a fan favourite throughout the “Transformers” film series. Although plot details for the prequel are being kept under wraps, it is believed that Steinfeld will be playing a tomboy who holds a job as a mechanic after school. The storyline will take place in the 1980s.
“Bumblebee” will be released on 8th June 2018.
