A video of an Uber driver getting beaten by a group of men at Paya Terubong in Penang has gone viral on social media.
Multiple reports claimed that the driver was bashed because he sexually harassed a Vietnamese passenger who rode his car from Lintang Paya Terubong to Jalan Argyll at 4pm on Tuesday (6th June).
Apparently, the driver pulled up by the roadside and took off his pants to show his private parts to her. The woman also claimed that he pulled her hand and place it on his crotch. She later told her husband about the ordeal.
Angered by the driver’s inappropriate actions, he and his friends confronted the driver near the same spot where he had picked up his wife the next day (Wednesday, 7th June). The driver, who is currently receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital, was violently assaulted by around 10 men.
In a statement, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said that the suspect sustained injuries on the head, arm, and left leg. Besides that, his car was also damaged during the incident. The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty.
