Dubbed “Lee Hyori’s little sister group”, CJ E&M’s idol girl group SPICA (스피카) has announced their disbandment on Monday (6th February).
In a statement, the agency said, “The SPICA members have come to an agreement to disband. We are currently discussing the future course for the members.”
According to All Kpop, the girls still have some contract time left with their label and have all moved out of their dorms to live separately. Another source revealed, “The SPICA members are currently discussing whether or not they will go to different companies, or, though it is unlikely, they are also considering moving to another company as a whole group.”
SPICA debuted in 2012 under B2M Entertainment through their first digital single, “Doggedly” (독하게). The group consists of members Kim Boa (who had worked as a vocal coach with other groups like INFINITE, KARA, and Rainbow), Park Sihyun (former girlfriend of Shinhwa’s Jun Jin), Park Narae, Yang Jiwon, and Kim Bohyung.
The girls made their American debut in 2014 with “I Did It”, a medium-tempo dance song that was produced by world-class producers Cory Enemy, Oliver Goldstein, and Daniel Merlot. To date, SPICA has released 2 EPs: “Russian Roulette” and “Lonely”.
SPICA’s disbandment comes after of the split of K-Pop girl groups 4Minute, 2NE1, and Wonder Girls.
