#OscarNoms: 89th Oscar Nominations Announced; “La La Land” Leads With 14 Nods

Today (24th January), Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Guillermo del Toro, Demian Bichir, Dustin Lance Black, Ken Watanabe, and other Academy members announced the 89th Academy Awards nominations.

“La La Land” received 14 nominations, a tie with “Titanic” and “All About Eve” for the most nods in Academy Awards history, while diverse films such as “Moonlight”, “Fences”, and “Hidden Figures” are nominated for race for best pictures, moving past the 2 #OscarsSoWhite years.

Academy members from each of the 17 branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories – actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc. In the “Animated Feature Film” and Foreign “Language Film” categories, nominees are selected by a vote of multi-branch screening committees.

Active members of the Academy are eligible to vote for the winners in all 24 categories beginning 13th to 21st February. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the awards will be held on 26th February at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
