The first “Wolverine” solo movie isn’t the worst movie in the “X-Men” franchise, but it featured the worst incarnation of Deadpool that comic book fans have ever seen.
Though the film left a bad taste in our mouths, the anticipation for the upcoming “Deadpool” solo movie is only getting higher, especially since 20th Century Fox debuted a string of new official stills.

One of the stills gave us a new glimpse at “Gotham” star Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, the love interest of Ryan Reynolds‘ Wade Wilson/Deadpool.
Carlysle is better known as Copycat, a shapeshifting mutant with the ability to copy another mutant’s powers. The character was created by Fabian Nicieza and Joe Madureira and she first appeared in “New Mutants” #98. She was employed by arms dealer Tolliver to infiltrate X-Force in the shape of Domino.
It’s unclear whether Baccarin will appear as Copycat because so far, it’s only confirmed that the actress will play Carlysle in the film.
Another 2 newly-released stills teased nothing new about the film, but Reynolds is featured on both pictures in his Deadpool costume.
Though Deadpool is a foul-mouthed mercenary with a penchant for violence and mayhem, his past history and the infamous sarcastic personality kept negative opinions at bay. Having successfully captured our attention through the official trailers, only time will tell if the feature film will be one of the best superhero films of the year.
On a separate note, “Deadpool” could be one of the shortest comic book films in history because the Spanish 20th Century Fox website has its runtime listed as 106 minutes (1 hour and 46 minutes).
It’s safe to assume that the running time is accurate because the Spanish site is owned and operated by Fox. However, the studio has yet to confirm the report.
Meanwhile, another 3 official stills also debuted on Empire Magazine last week.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Reynolds kicked things off by addressing the problem that everyone had with the Merc with a Mouth’s appearance in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.
He said:
Sometimes studio politics can interfere with fanboy dreams, even my own.
He went on to talk about how the movie will work within the “X-Men” universe. He explained:
This film certainly works within the context of the X-Men universe, but it doesn’t necessarily include the sensibilities of an X-Men movie.
“It’s like taking an X-Men character, pumping him full of LSD and then releasing him back into the fold,” he added.
As seen in the official stills, one of the “X-Men” characters that will make a strong appearance in the “Deadpool” movie is Colossus, a Russian mutant who possesses the ability to transform his body into organic steel. Daniel Cudmore is no longer playing the role and Andre Tricoteux was brought in to replace him.
Brianna Hildebrand is playing Negasonic Teenage Warhead and she is, in fact, wearing the New Mutants uniform. Since Fox and longtime “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg are currently planning to develop a live-action adaptation of “The New Mutants”, will Hildebrand’s character in it? We surely hope so.
For now, based on the trailers that we’ve seen, both Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will be going against Gina Carano’s Angel Dust, a mutant refugee who was part of the underground mutant group known as The Morlocks.
Take a look at Carano’s characer in the new still below:
Directed by Tim Miller, “Deadpool” is based on a script by “Zombieland” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The official synopsis is as follows:
BASED UPON MARVEL COMICS’ MOST UNCONVENTIONAL ANTI-HERO, “DEADPOOL” TELLS THE ORIGIN STORY OF FORMER SPECIAL FORCES OPERATIVE TURNED MERCENARY WADE WILSON, WHO AFTER BEING SUBJECTED TO A ROGUE EXPERIMENT THAT LEAVES HIM WITH ACCELERATED HEALING POWERS, ADOPTS THE ALTER EGO DEADPOOL. ARMED WITH HIS NEW ABILITIES AND A DARK, TWISTED SENSE OF HUMOR, DEADPOOL HUNTS DOWN THE MAN WHO NEARLY DESTROYED HIS LIFE.
Besides the mentioned cast, TJ Miller and “Game of Thrones” star Ed Skrein are starring in the R-rated movie as Weasel and Ajax respectively.
“Deadpool” is slated for release in Malaysia on 11th Feb 2016.
