When Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, and Mel B announced that they were reuniting for a secret project under a 3-piece subunit called GEM (the first letter of each of their names) back in July, excitement was high. A new song was leaked yesterday (Tuesday, 22nd November) and fans are losing it.

The demo, “Song For Her”, is nostalgic as is it cheesy, but we have the pop trio singing about their favourite topic – girl power. The song is definitely uplifting thanks to the chorus that goes: “This is a song for her/You know you light it up/You know who you are/Stand up, stand up/She’s got that boom boom pop/That’s something they can’t stop.”

Loyal fans who have been following the career of the world’s greatest girl band, even after they disband, were overcome with joy upon listening to the track for the first time. Check out some of their tweets below:

Although “Song For Her” is a decent song that could pass off as a “Spiceworld” B-side at best, Twitter user JC Irwin is right in assuming that it won’t be played on the radio. Emma Bunton herself had already confirmed this news way back in July.

Here’s what she previously said: “You know, us girls love creating stuff. We went and had a laugh in the studio. It’s not a single, it’s just we were creating. It’s just a demo and somehow it has got out there.” “Song For Her” may just be a cute demo, but judging from the fan reaction, Christmas came early!

Word on the street is that the 3 singers have been in the studio recoding new music, so hopefully we’ll see the return of Girl Power pretty soon.
