When “Justice League” was first announced, Zack Snyder would use the phrase “Unite the 7”, which refers to the 7 members in the team. Out of all the films for Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe franchise, none is more elusive than “Green Lantern Corps”.
Despite having a 2020 release date locked in, we know next to nothing about the project. It was previously implied that Green Lantern won’t be involved in “Justice League”, but now there’s word that “Green Lantern Corps” may play a role in the movie after all.
The Wraps’ Umberto Gonzalez broke the news, revealing only that “a member of the Green Lantern Corps will be seen in ‘Justice League’ in a key sequence.” Based on just that tidbit alone, we’re assuming that this Green Lantern (or whoever it turns out to be) won’t have a prominent role in the movie. Perhaps it’ll be similar to The Flash’s cameo in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad“.
Adam Holmes pointed out 2 possibilities for the supposedly Green Lantern cameo. Either this Green Lantern Corps member will be a lesser known character or it could Green Lantern warning the “Justice League” heroes about Darkseid. It’s a small role, but it will essentially lay the groundwork for 2019’s “Justice League 2”.
It’s been reported that “Green Lantern Corps” will be bringing together several members (some sources indicate that there will be as many as 3 Earth Lanterns) of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force founded billions of years ago with the objective to protect various sectors of the universe.
The better known Green Lanterns – Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner – are rumoured to be some of the characters that will be featured. If Warner Bros. intends to stay faithful to the comics, those 3 candidates should be a no-brainer.
It’s worth noting that until the news is officially confirmed, Warner Bros. still has plenty of time to make changes to the film. If a “Green Lantern Corps” character is indeed appearing in “Justice League“, then it shouldn’t be long before we get wind of some casting news.
“Justice League” will arrive in theatres in 17th November 2017, while “Green Lantern Corps” is scheduled for 24th July 2020.
