Local director Teng Bee’s upcoming film is a must-watch for all Datuk Lee Chong Wei fans 🙂
Based on the success story of our national badminton hero, “Rise Of The Legend” (败者为王), will be produced by C8 Pictures along with Mahu Pictures on a RM4.5 million budget. The film is expected for release in 2018. The biopic will revolve around Lee’s life and his relationship with his family.
In speaking about the film, Teng Bee, who also directed “Kepong Gangster” in 2012, said that he and his team spent 3 years trying to convince the shuttler to let them make the film, adding that there will be a nationwide audition to search for the right actor to play Lee.
“3 years ago, we came up with a concept about making a biopic about him. And it took us 3 years to finally get his approval,” said the director at the film’s contract signing ceremony on Tuesday (18th October).
Although it’s uncertain whether the athlete would make a special cameo appearance in the film, we’re equally excited for its release anyway.
Born in Perak, Datuk Lee Chong Wei was discovered by Misbun Sidek and he was drafted into the national squad when he was 17 years old. To date, the shuttler has participated in 3 Olympic Games in 2004, 2008, and 2012. It was recently recorded that he has the fastest smash in badminton history.
