An unusual notice on a signboard in Kedah has been causing quite a hoo-ha among netizens on social media.
It reads: “Dilarang pasangan untuk duduk berdua-duaan atau cuba membuat maksiat di kawasan ini” (Translation: Couples are forbidden from sitting close together or trying to engage in immoral ativities).

The signboard above, which was taken at Taman Jubli in Sungai Petani, also sports the official logo of the Majlis Perbandaran Sungai Petani Kedah Darul Aman (MPSPK) on it.
When contacted, MPSPK councillor Ko Hung Weng stated that he had no knowledge of this signboard’s existence until the image went viral on social media a few days ago.
“As far as I know, there’s only one such signboard in Taman Jubli. The setting up of this signboard was never brought up during the council meetings. It can cause a misunderstanding. The message on the signboard is also not clear if it applies to married couples as well,” Ko told The Star.

Seeing as how this signboard can come across as confusing to many, Ko said that he would seek more information from the council’s Landscape Department. He also clarified that the notice on the signboard was only aimed towards Muslims.
Since making its way online, many netizens have taken to Facebook to voice their disagreement with the law. Read what they had to say here:
What do you guys think of the signboard? Should couples be prohibited from sitting together in a public area?
