Star-Lord aka Peter Quill and his team of heroes will be going up against some new intergalactic menaces in James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”.
Thanks to the director, who released the brand new concept art this morning (23rd August), we get to see the core crew of Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, and Rocket doing battle with a horrible-looking giant space tentacle monster which has way too many sharp teeth.

While Star-Lord, Gamora, and Rocket are making full use of their large blasters, we see Drax diving right at the creature armed with only a pair of double blades. However, the ever-adorable baby Groot (still regrowing after the events from the 1st movie) doesn’t seem to be taking this fight quite as seriously as the rest of team.
Fans are speculating that this confrontation will probably take place at the beginning of the film since we know that 3 additional members, who are noticeably absent from the concept art, will be joining the gang: Rooker’s Yondu, new character Mantis, and former villain Nebula.
Of course, we’re still wondering who is this new monster? Gunn has the answer:

The creature actually made a brief appearance in the “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” footage shown at last month’s Comic-Con. This scary abilisk won’t be the only opponent though. The Guardians will also be up against main villain Ayesha, who is out for vengeance after they encountered her early in the movie.
Whether this nasty creature is essential to the main storyline remains to be seen. We’ll know better when the official trailer comes out later this year. In the meantime, let’s just admire the expression on Baby Groot’s face, shall we?

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is slated to hit US theatres on 5th May 2017.
