The sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s machines versus monsters movie will be helmed by director Steven S. DeKnight (from “Daredevil”) and Derek Connolly (from “Jurassic World”) was enlisted to pen a fresh new script for the upcoming film. Besides that, Boyega will be co-producing the movie through his company, UpperRoom Productions.
The young star will be playing the son of commanding officer Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba) from the first movie. Elba’s character gained immense popularity among fans after the release of “Pacific Rim” in 2013. So this is one sequel that many fans and movie-goers are actually excited to see.
In Legendary Picture’s press release, del Toro said, “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The ‘Pacific Rim’ universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job”.

So far, it’s uncertain whether other characters from the previous film will returning for the sequel, especially Rinko Kikuchi’s Mako Mori, Pentecost’s adoptive daughter, and Charlie Hunnam’s Raleigh Becket.
No release date for the “Pacific Rim” sequel have been confirmed yet, but we’ll be updating this post with more information as soon as details become available.
