We’ve got some bad news for the folks who live and work in Cheras and Kajang.
On Friday night (3rd June), a portion of the Cheras-Kajang Highway will be closed for 6 hours. This is to facilitate the installation of the Sri Raya MRT Station pedestrian link bridge.
MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd released a statement yesterday to say that the closed roads will affect motorists on both Kuala Lumpur and Kajang-bound routes. The affected stretches are KM13.2 –KM 14.2 (Kajang-bound) and KM15.4-14.2 (KL-bound).
The road closure will take effect from 11pm on Friday to 5am on Saturday (4th June).
As an alternative to access Kajang, motorists coming from Kuala Lumpur are advised to use Exit 703 (Telekom Interchange) slip road to re-enter the Cheras–Kajang Highway by going across Jalan Hulu Langat. The same goes for those who are heading to the city centre from Kajang.
Meanwhile, motorists from Taman Kota Cheras heading to Kajang and Kuala Lumpur will not be diverted.
This is not the first time that motorists are affected by MRT constructions this year. It was reported that a 63-day closure on Jalan Cheras, which lasted until 26th April, caused severe traffic jams and impacted many motorists travelling back and forth between Kajang and Kuala Lumpur.
