WhatsApp has been occupied with its service upgrades since the start of the year and it’s continuing the trend with more interesting features.
Users can now emphasise their point a little better by adding bold, italics, and strikethrough to their chats in its latest update.
The new features were initially introduced in a beta option but are now available for users running version 2.12.17 on iOS and version 2.12.535 for Android. The features are hidden in the app but learning how to master the format options is pretty easy.
Here’s how it works:
- For bold, add asterisks (*) to either side of your text, e.g. *bold*
- To italicise, add underscores (_) either side, e.g. _italics_
- To strikethrough text, add tildes (~) either side, e.g. ~tilde~
A combination of all the formats put together would give you this: Hype.
Other recent additions include WhatsApp’s multiple selection where a menu option (which allows various options such as muting chats or making calls) will appear when you press the contact’s profile pic.
Users can also share images from other apps including 3rd party apps such as iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Microsoft’s OneDrive. Beyond photos, the app also added the ability to send and receive PDF documents.
