Hold the Manuka Honey!
The Health Ministry has banned the import of Manuka Honey with immediate effect following the withdrawal of the product in New Zealand as it may contain prohibited substances.
Director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the product manufactured by Evergreen Life Limited in New Zealand was withdrawn as it may contain dihydroxyacetone and methylglyoxal used in its processes.
Consumers who have bought the product have been advised to not consume it and should return the item to the shop, he said in a statement here Sunday (28th February 2016).
“Even though there is no danger in food safety, customers who had consumed the product and have doubts about their health can refer to their doctors for medical advice,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry was taking follow up action after the products’ withdrawal was reported in the New Zealand Primary Industries Ministry’s website.
