Comic book fans, rejoice! The next “Thor” film may feature a beautiful “goddesss” 😉
Sources confirmed to Variety that Cate Blanchett is in talks to play the female lead in Marvel‘s upcoming fantasy action film, “Thor: Ragnarok“. If the deal is done, it will mark the actress’ first major comic book role in the film.
At the time of writing, details regarding Blanchett’s role in the superhero film remain scarce.
Rumour has it that Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, and Charlize Theron were in talks to play the role of a female villain and this could possibly mean that Blanchett is up for the same role as well. Other characters she may play include Amora the Enchantress, Hela Goddess of Death, Karnilla, and the Warrior Queen Knorda.
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Alexander, and Mark Ruffalo will return to the franchise and reprise their respective roles as Thor, Loki, Lady Sif, and The Incredible Hulk.
“What We Do in the Shadows” director Taika Waititi was recently tapped to helm “Thor: Ragnarok” based on a script written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing it.
Blanchett previously appeared in Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” trilogies. Recently, she starred in “Carol”, a 1950’s lesbian drama that earned her 5 nominations at the Golden Globe Award, including Best Actress and Best Picture. The actress also appeared in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Cinderella“. She voiced Valka in “How To Train Your Dragon 2“.
“Thor: Ragnarok” is set to be released on 3rd November 2017.
