The cat is finally out of the bag.

South Korean idol girl group Wonder Girls were initially rumoured to make a comeback as early as late July, but JYP Entertainment told Korean media outlet OSEN that “nothing has been determined” for the group yet. A day after denying the rumours, the talent agency once again approached OSEN by announcing that the girl group will indeed return to the Korean music scene this summer.

Wonder Girls

On 24th June, the agency said in a statement:

Wonder Girls completed their music video shooting for their new song today in Gyeonggi-do, Namyang-ju. Yoobin, Ye Eun, Hyelim, and Sunmi are planning to make a comeback as a quartet. The comeback is aimed for July.

It was also revealed that the girl group will return as a band instead of a dance group as the girls were said to have carried their own instruments during the music video shoot. Yoobin was spotted playing the drums while Hyelim is on the guitar. Ye Eun was spotted on the keyboard while Sunmi played the bass. The agency also told that OSEN that “they have been practicing playing the instruments for a long time”.

Wonder Girls 2

The girl group once took the world by storm with their hit dance track, “Nobody”. However, they went on an indefinite hiatus as leader of the group, Sunye, officially announced that she would be marrying her longtime boyfriend, James Park. The girls then held their final performance together during the closing ceremony of the Winter Special Olympics in Pyeongchang in 2013.

This comeback album would mark their first album in 3 years since the release of “Wonder Party” in June 2012. It will also mark Sunmi’s first comeback as a Wonder Girls member since leaving the group in 2010. Former member Sohee, who left the talent agency upon her contract expiration, will not return as she is currently focusing on her acting career.

As for Sunye, she recently returned to Korea to attend a friend’s wedding but the agency said that “she will not be involved in the activities”.

No further details were revealed, but are you excited for their comeback? What do you think their comeback concept will look like? Share your thoughts in the comments box below.
