“Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!”
Principal photography for “Ghostbusters” has just begun yesterday (18th June), but lo and behold, set photos have already started circulating online. The production took place in Boston, with the stars of the reboot, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Melissa McCarthy giving us a first look at their characters.
Said to be taking a grittier and scarier tone, the upcoming female Ghostbusters team will be made up of Erin Gabler (played by Kristen Wiig), a renowned author on paranormal activities, Abby Bergman (played by Melissa McCarthy), the co-author of Gabler’s book, Jillian Holtzmann (played by Kate McKinnon), Bergman’s new partner, and Patty Tolan (played by Leslie Jones), a New York City subway worker who stumbles upon a supernatural threat.
Jones was no where to be seen but Wiig was spotted in a conservative plaid skirt suit, witnessing a fight between 2 men while showing a shocked expression. McCarthy and McKinnon were spotted in a separate scene, with the former holding a computer contraption that looked pretty heavy and the latter wearing paint-splattered overalls with a leather jacket to boot.
The photos can be seen in the gallery below:
No plot details were released, but we know that Chris Hemsworth will be playing Kevin, the Ghostbusters’ receptionist. Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, who acted as Peter Venkman and Ray Stanz in the original “Ghostbusters” movie, are rumoured to be making cameo appearances in the upcoming reboot as well.
The reboot will see a reunion between director Paul Feig and McCarthy, who very recently worked together in the highly acclaimed action comedy film, “Spy“. Ivan Reitman and Amy Pascal will be producing the movie, based on a script written by Katie Dippold and Feig himself.
“Ghostbusters” is currently slated for release on 22nd July 2016 and truth to be told, we can barely contain our excitement!
