You’re a very good butcher!” This could be a compliment for a cooking chef, or a sign for Hannibal Lecter to turn more rude people into a savoury feast in the upcoming season of NBC’s “Hannibal“.

Featuring a crew of old and new faces, the 3rd season of the Thomas Harris-inspired series will make its debut on NBC in less than 2 weeks. Prior to its debut, NBC teased fans by sharing a series of videos on multiple social media platforms.

The video posted on their official Twitter account showed Mads Mikkelsen’s Dr. Lecter reciting the first sonnet of Dante Alighieri’s “La Vita Nuova”.

Considering how he is now living in Europe with his new “wife” Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier (played by Gillian Anderson), the poem resonates deeply with how Hannibal is attempting to reconstruct himself by embracing a new life:

To every captive soul and gentle heart
into whose sight this present speech may come,
so that they might write its meaning for me,
greetings, in their lord’s name, who is Love.
Already a third of the hours were almost past
of the time when all the stars were shining,
when Amor suddenly appeared to me
whose memory fills me with terror.
Joyfully Amor seemed to me to hold
my heart in his hand, and held in his arms
my lady wrapped in a cloth sleeping.
Then he woke her, and that burning heart
he fed to her reverently, she fearing,
afterwards he went not to be seen weeping.

Mikkelsen and Anderson will return to star in the series alongside Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, and Caroline Dhavernas. They will be joined by new cast members including Richard Armitage and Tao Okamoto. “Star Trek” actor Zachary Quinto will guest star in at least one episode while Joe Anderson will replace Michael Pitt’s role as Mason Verger.

The official synopsis is as follows:

After the shocking events of the season 2 finale, Hannibal Lecter (played by Mads Mikkelsen) is on the run in Europe – accompanied by his psychiatrist Bedelia Du Maurier (played by Gillian Anderson) – sporting a new identity, but servicing the same insatiable appetite. As the lives of Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy), Jack (played by Laurence Fishburne) and Alana (played by Caroline Dhavernas) converge toward Hannibal again, each with their own motivations to catch him once and for all, their deadly dance turns in startling and unexpected way, and nothing will ever be the same again.

Showrunner Bryan Fuller serves as an executive producer alongside Martha De Laurentiis, Jesse Alexander, Chris Brancato, Sara Colleton, Katie O’Connell, Elisa Roth, Sidonie Dumas, and Christophe Riandee. Co-commissioned internationally by Sony Pictures Television Networks, the series is produced by Gaumont International Television, Dino De Laurentiis Company and Living Dead Guy Productions, and
