The wait is (almost) over. Starting with the new season of “Game of Thrones“, viewers in Asia can watch HBO and CINEMAX Original the same time as viewers in the US!

On 13th April, subscribers in Asia can catch the worldwide premiere of 3 new seasons of HBO Original series – “Game of Thrones“, “Silicon Valley”, and “Veep” as they debut back-to-back and simultaneously as the US from 9am with primetime encores from 9pm the same day on HBO / HBO HD (Astro Ch 411 / 431).

Upon the announcement, HBO Asia CEO Jonathan Spink said:

Subscribers in Asia will now have the choice to watch their favourite HBO and CINEMAX Original the same time as the US or during the primetime telecast that same evening. Or if they prefer, via broadband streaming anytime, anywhere on HBO GO or our on-demand service, HBO ON DEMAND. The simultaneous airing of new seasons and brand-new Original programs as the US will help with our continued fight against piracy and end the angst of reading about show spoilers on social media.

In case you didn’t know, last year, it was reported that the “Game of Thrones” S4 season finale was downloaded more than 8 million times via BitTorrent.

It marked the TV series’ third year running as the most pirated TV show of the year.

The now-all-too-famous S4 finale‘s downloads were so fast, so rampant, and so many that it surpassed the second place show, “The Walking Dead”, which garnered almost 4.8 million downloads. As such, HBO’s same day programming might just change things up a little bit in term of the piracy rate!

And while we’re on the topic, meet the new cast members of the upcoming “Game of Thrones” S5, as announced during last year’s “Game of Thrones” San Diego Comic Con (2014 SDCC) panel.

Other HBO Original programmes that will premiere the same time as the US include the new seasons of:

  • The Emmy®-winning “True Detective”, with Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and Rachel McAdams
  • “The Leftovers”, starring Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler
  • “Getting On” the offbeat comedy that follows the dysfunctional staffers at a female-geriatric ward

As well as highly-anticipated upcoming new HBO Original programmes:

  • “Westworld”, a drama series starring Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, and Evan Rachel Wood
  • “The Brink”, the dark comedy series starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins
  • HBO Films’ “Bessie”, starring Queen Latifah

Watch the worldwide premiere of the new seasons of “Game of Thrones”, “Silicon Valley”, and “Veep” with Bahasa Malaysia subtitles when they debut back-to-back on Monday (13th April) from 9am with primetime encore from 9pm the same day on HBO / HBO HD (Astro Ch 411 / 431). New episodes premiere weekly at the same time.

The series will also be available on HBO ON DEMAND in Malaysia.
