We know, we know, not all of us can afford to fork out thousands for a trip to say, a place like Belgium to experience a gargantuan-sized music festival like Tomorrowland. Trust us, we know how many times we’ve all kicked ourselves because the biggest and best festivals (on an international level) always happens oh, only about halfway across the world.
So like many of you guys, we settle for the biggest festivals in the Southeast Asian region such as Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA), ZoukOut, Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP), etc. Or, we make do with partying from our desktops/laptops.
Yeah, peeps, we’re talking about live streams/broadcasts.
Note: The above video isn’t a live stream/broadcast video but we just thought we’d throw that in because it’s the coolest UMF after movie we’ve ever seen! Look at how Hardwell waves at the camera the 0:22 mark ;)
With the advent of the Internet and convergence of media, we can now sort of “travel” halfway across the world to be part of the thousands that turn up at some of the world’s most coveted music festivals! The best part is, we don’t even need to leave home (or the office) to do so. Here are some of the parties around the world that have got free livestreaming:
What: Ultra Music Festival (UMF)
Held in Downtown Miami in Bayfront Park, Ultra Music Festival Miami (UMF) is an annual outdoor electronic music festival that occurs in March. It’s said to be one of the biggest dance events of the year because it coincides with the annual Winter Music Conference, also held in Miami.
From 1999 – 2006, UMF was a one-day festival but from 2007 – 2010, it became a 2-day festival and then a 3-day festival from 2011 – 2012. In 2013, for the first time in festival history, UMF took place across two consecutive weekends. The 2013 edition of UMF sold out its pre-sale tickets within seconds of the launch and saw an attendance of 330,000 partygoers. In 2014, the festival returned to a one-weekend format and needless to say, it continued to bring thousands of dance music fans to beautiful Miami for the festival.
Ultra’s “UMF TV” has proven one of the best festival streams in the business, covering both weekends of Ultra with plenty of amazing and high quality live set coverage from the world’s biggest DJs. UMF would also usually take the liberty to save DJ sets individually and post them up on their YouTube channel for those who miss the livestream.
Taking place in Indio, California, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly referred to as Coachella or the Coachella Fest) is an annual 2-weekend, 3-day music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, located in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. The event features many genres of music, including rock, indie, hip hop, and electronic dance music. Across the grounds, several stages continuously host live music. The main stages are:
- Coachella Stage
- Outdoor Theatre
- Gobi Tent
- Mojave Tent
- Sahara Tent
A smaller Oasis Dome was used in 2006 and 2011, while a new Yuma stage was introduced in 2013.
Coachella has long been one of America’s most acclaimed festivals. Year after year, Coachella brings the the most revered artists of the time to the desert for three days of festival madness. Coachella’s “Coachella Live” has become a tradition, consistently offering simultaneous performance broadcasts, multiple camera angles, and high quality broadcasts.
Tomorrowland is the largest annual electronic music festival held in the world, taking place in Belgium. The enchanting event takes place in the town of Boom, 16 kilometres south of Antwerp, 32 kilometres north of Brussels, and has been organised since 2005. Tomorrowland has since become one of the most notable global music festivals, due in part to its amazing after movies, one of a kind stage design, and festive atmosphere. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the festival and to meet the high demand for tickets, the 2014 edition of Tomorrowland was held over 2 weekends and there were more than 400,000 attendees.
Bringing over 400 DJs to Belgium for its three day event, Tomorrowland’s patented “Tomorrowland TV” presents the festival in a half-live, half-produced fashion with interviews, DJ sets, and tons of beautiful panoramas.

As long as you have a fast enough Internet connection, a desktop/laptop, and some free time, we say party on ;)
