Earlier this year, on 24th May, Mid Valley Megamall launched their “Mickey Mouse Through the Years” project. It set off a Mickey Mouse bomb and a ton of Mickey Mouse related items exploded all over one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia.
Starting with a Mickey Mouse bonanza on the ground floor, the celebratory project featured the iconic “everybody’s favourite” Disney mouse figurines painted and interpreted by various brands.
It was the largest display of Mickey Mouse figurines Malaysia has ever had. A sum of other fun art was also featured, such as Mickey’s evolution from black and white to current day.
For many shoppers and onlookers (like us, for example), it was a Mickey Mouse crash course plus history lessons all in one!
The mall-wide project ended with a competition where school children were invited to participate in their own creative interpretation of Mickey. The results? Incredible!
The contest saw over 400 Mickey Mouse submissions from children as young as pre-schoolers in the school category competition to the older group in the open category competition.
We heard that a total of 44 schools around Klang Valley, Malaysia participated in the school category (pre-school, primary schools, and secondary schools).
The open category, on the other hand, consisted of shoppers who were eligible to submit their figurines for the competition after purchasing the Mickey Mouse figurine.
Nevertheless, can you believe that these were made by children? Gosh!
The winners from each category were selected by a panel of judges and the votes from shoppers throughout the duration of the competition. And they walked away with cash prizes, vouchers, trophies, and big smiles on their faces!
